Synagogue Minden

Mindener Museum

Completed: 2021

A few photographs and a floor plan formed the basis for the reconstruction of the Minden synagogue. Only one photograph of the west façade exists for the exterior, and only a view of the Torah shrine with the image of the women's emporia for the interior.

Inside, the challenge was to reconstruct the undocumented photographic view of the west gallery from the existing foundations.

There is also no record of the colour scheme. The photograph of the interior shows ornamentation that was certainly colourful. However, the choice of colour would be purely speculative. In the film, the interior was therefore first shown in monochrome and then various colour variations were shown. Tracking shots were developed with the most harmonious colour scheme, which then changed back to monochrome at the end of the film. This should make it clear that this is only a hypothesis.
