Rubens "Assumption of the

Virgin Mary"

museum kunst palast, Düsseldorf

Completed: 2008

For an exhibition in the museum kunst palast, the painting "Assumption of the Virgin Mary" by Peter Paul Rubens, which is part of the collection of the museum, was to be particularly staged. The painting was originally in Notre Dame de la Chapelle, a church in Brussels. The frame of the picture as well as a relief with figurative elements on the west crossing wall belonged together with Rubens’ painting. With the help of a simulation film, on the one hand, this unity was to be elucidated and, on the other hand, the fluctuating history of the painting was to be selected as a central theme. The connection between the painting, the frame and the relief was produced through a 3D computer reconstruction. The original surroundings were three dimensionally reproduced. This included the reconstruction of the frame and the altar as well as part of the interior of Notre Dame de la Chapelle church in Brussels.
